Roel Meeus graduated in 2005 as master in law at the K.U.Leuven. In 2006 he obtained the degree of master in environmental law at Ghent University. Since April 2007 he is a scientific researcher at the Center for Environmental and Energy Law of Ghent University. He mainly does research on the European law requirements for the enforcement of EU-rooted environmental law and on the settlement as an instrument for combatting environmental offences. In June 2009 he initiated a Ph.D. research on the public enforcement of EU environmental law by the Member States (promoter: Prof. Dr. Luc Lavrysen; co-promoter: Dr. Carole M. Billiet). Roel also works as a lawyer.
